  • Work in irrigation will have a bearing on polls: Digvijay
  • Exudes confidence Congress, allies will win the elections

    Digvijay Singh

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Monday said the party did not visualise any impact at the national level by the decision of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) joining hands with the Telugu Desam Party in the Andhra Pradesh local bodies elections.

Party general secretary Digvijay Singh said CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury had already said the decision of going with the TDP was taken at the local level.

Mr. Singh exuded confidence that the Congress and its allies Telengana Rashtra Samithi and the CPI would do well in the local bodies polls, which usually go with the party in power.

    `Work will show'

The AICC leader said the work done by the Rajasekhara Reddy Government during the last two years, especially in the field of irrigation, would have an impact in the coming elections. He said once the irrigation projects started by the State Government were completed, the response would be good for the Congress.

As for the TRS, he said, perhaps, it has seen the ground reality, which is why it has decided to contest the local bodies elections along with the Congress. In response to a question, Mr. Singh said the Congress has always suggested to the TRS that is should be part of the State Government.

The process of setting up the legislative council was expected to pick up pace after the panchayat and Zilla Parishad elections, he said.
