Info centres to make Delhi more tourist-friendly

Tourism Minister reviews progress of various projects

NEW DELHI: Delhi Education and Tourism Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely on Monday disclosed that construction work for the proposed state-of-the-art Signature Bridge-cum-water sports and amusement park project in the Capital would begin in September this year. Similarly, two major underpasses at the crowded Mool Chand Crossing in South Delhi and the Prem Bari Bridge crossing in North-West Delhi would be thrown open to traffic within the next three months.

Reviewing the progress of various infrastructure projects taken up by Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), Mr. Lovely said all formalities including the feasibility study of the Signature Bridge had been completed. The designer underpass at Prem Bari Bridge on Ring Road would be opened next month, he added. Construction of the Mool Chand underpass will be completed by September this year and it would go a long way in solving the traffic congestion problem on this vast stretch in South Delhi.

Mr. Lovely said he also reviewed the pace of work on the new Dilli Haat that is coming up at Pitampura in North-West Delhi. It will have an underground parking and will be developed as a model concept at a cost of Rs. 22.50 crores. The project is scheduled for completion by August next year.

As for the proposed Dilli Haat in Janakpuri, Mr. Lovely said eight acres had been allocated for this project and the feasibility study is likely to be completed by September this year.

Referring to the development of new Coffee Homes, Mr. Lovely informed that while the Coffee Home at ITO will be operated by DTTDC and the one at R.K. Puram, to be developed as a 24-hour outlet, will be run by a private agency for which tendering has already been finalised.

He said proposals for having Coffee Homes at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Vikaspuri and Janakpuri were also under active consideration of the department.

Asserting that the Information Centre at Baba Kharag Singh Marg had received a "tremendous response", Mr. Lovely said another such centre would be opened by end of next month at the same place
