Centre, States blamed for soaring prices

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The National Akali Dal on Monday blamed the Centre and the State Government's inability to check illegal hoarding and black-marketing of commodities for the steep increase in the prices of essential items in recent weeks.

Recalling how the Akali Dal had sold pulses and cereals at Rs.20 per kg when the market rate was over Rs.40 per kg and the sale was a great success due to participation of a large number of residents' welfare associations and consumer groups, party president Paramjeet Singh Pamma said there was a need for the Centre to intervene in the matter and stop export of commodities whose prices were shooting up.

Also, he demanded strict action against those indulging in black-marketing and hoarding of items of daily use. He also accused the Centre as well as the State Government of refusing to acknowledge the facts and adopting a callous approach towards the issue of price rise in general despite its severe impact on the common man.
