Appointment of M.S. Talawar opposed

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Teachers in the Department of Education of Bangalore University are opposing rotational appointment of M.S. Talawar as chairman of the department on the ground that his record in that position showed that he could not be trusted with such a responsibility.

B.G. Sudha, Chairperson and Dean, Faculty of Education, will complete her term on June 30. According to the university rules, Dr. Talawar, who has seniority, should succeed Prof. Sudha. Five teachers have submitted memoranda opposing conferring chairmanship on Dr. Talwar. They have alleged that Dr. Talawar is "unfit to hold the post." Speaking to The Hindu, Dr. Ranganath said he was aware of the issue but he would go by facts. He would abide by the decision taken by the Syndicate. "Differences of opinion exist in all departments. I cannot take sides. Based on the objective assessment, the chairmanship will be given," he said.
