Man waylaid, robbed of cash

The manager of a private firm was returning home after collecting money from retailers

BANGALORE: Armed men waylaid an employee of a private firm and robbed him of Rs. 1 lakh and a mobile phone at knifepoint in Byappanahalli police station limits on Sunday night.

Police said that around 9.30 p.m., Sunil Kumar, manager of a wholesale biscuit company in Koramangala, was returning to his house on 10th Main, New Byappanahalli, after collecting money from retailers.

While Kumar, who took a lift in a call centre vehicle from Koramangala to Byappanahalli, was walking towards his house, three men waylaid him, a few metres away from his home.

Before snatching the bag containing cash and the mobile phone from him, the robbers pointed a knife at Kumar and threatened to kill him if he raised an alarm, police said. On a complaint by Kumar, the Byappanahalli police have registered a case.

Software engineers robbed

Two software engineers, who took a lift from International Technology Park Limited (ITPL) in a multi-utility vehicle, were robbed of cash, credit cards and mobile phones by the driver and his three accomplices on Sunday night.

Police said that around 9.30 p.m., Charles and his colleague, Rajagopal, were standing in front of the ITPL Gate. The driver of a multi-utility vehicle accosted them and offered them a lift up to Marathahalli. After Charles and Rajagopal boarded the vehicle, the driver and his three accomplices threatened the two and robbed them of Rs. 800, two mobile phones and credit cards.

On reaching a petrol outlet at Kundanhalli Gate, the driver filled petrol in the vehicle using Charles's credit card. Later, the robbers pushed Charles and Rajagopal out of the vehicle at Kalkere and sped away, the police said. On a complaint by Charles, the Ramamurthynagar police have registered a case.

Man killed

Manikantan (26), a native of Krishnagiri, was killed after a motorcycle rammed the moped on which he was riding pillion in Banaswadi traffic police station limits on Sunday night.

Police said the accident occurred around 7.15 p.m. near Tanisandra railway bridge on Hegdenagar Main Road. Manikantan's friend, who was riding the moped, was injured and is recovering in a hospital, police said. The Banaswadi traffic police have registered a case.
