dated June 28, 1956: Coastal trade

The Andhra Government has proposed the introduction of a steamer service between Howrah and Bombay touching a number of minor ports in the State. The other maritime States have been addressed by the Andhra Government with a view to enlisting their support to the proposal. The Government of India has asked the Andhra Government to work out the financial implications of such a proposal and suggested that the assistance of the Director-General of Shipping might be obtained for this purpose. With the inauguration of this steamer service touching the Andhra ports, the coastal trade will improve considerably. It will also ease the railway wagon position.
