BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday rejected petitions by three Tamil separatists, who were arrested by the Bangalore city police three years ago for allegedly waging war on the State, disturbing peace and working for the creation of a Tamil nation. The petitioners Mutthukumar alias Pandyan alias Ravi alias Ayyavoo, Raja and Shivakumar had filed applications for bail. They said they were in the Central Jail in Parappana Agrahara since their arrest. Prof. Nedunchezhian and 11 others, including themselves, were charge-sheeted in 2003 by the Frazer Town police, Bangalore, on charges of criminal conspiracy. The police, they said, had accused them of having drawn up a plan to wage war against the State. Late Vijay Murthy was the first accused in the case, and Prof. Nedunchezhian from Tanjore University was made accused no. 12, the petitioners told the court. They were accused of having hatched a conspiracy between 1996 and 2002 to disturb peace in Karnataka and to create a Tamil nation. The police alleged that a few separatists had obtained military training from the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) in Sri Lanka. The State opposed the bail petition, saying that the accused were involved in heinous crimes and the trial of the case had been posted before a Special Court. Justice Ajit Gunjal rejected the bail petitions.
