Letters to the Editor
The editorial `Autonomy as shield' (June 27) has rightly pointed out that autonomy of educational institutions should not be taken as a licence for mismanagement. It is all the more important in these days when granting autonomy to educational institutions is accepted government policy. It is a fact that the anti-reservation agitation spearheaded by the students of the AIIMS had the blessings of the higher-ups in the institute. While it is the democratic right of the citizens to agitate peacefully, encouraging activities detrimental to the academic interest of the institution and to the professional ethics of the members has to be curbed.
