U.N. help sought to repeal PoK poll laws

Staff Reporter

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has demanded that the United Nations persuade Islamabad to repeal the "undemocratic" electoral laws in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Recently the PoK Election Commission rejected JKLF nominations. Talking to The Hindu , JKLF chief Amanullah Khan said: "We have contacted the United Nations and asked them to help repeal the draconian electoral laws.''

``These are not only against the principles envisaged in the U.N. Charter and against the basics of democracy but also contradictory to Pakistan's claim of supporting Kashmiris' right to self-determination."
