24-hour toll-free line to be opened to counsel women

Bidar: D. Roopa, who took charge as the Superintendent of Police on Monday, said that all-round vigilance in the sensitive border district of Bidar would remain her priority.

To achieve this, the police force would be in constant interaction with various security agencies at the State and national level, she told presspersons on Tuesday.

The force would crack down on gambling and other illegal activities.

Traffic situation

She expressed concern over the worsening traffic situation in the city. She sought the co-operation of City Municipal Council and the district administration in order to regulate traffic.

A 24-hour toll-free telephone line would be opened in the District Police Office on the lines of the Mahila Sahaya Vani in Bangalore, in order to counsel women in distress.

This would also work as a bridge between the police and affected women. Assistance of NGOs would be sought in establishing this, she said.

Senior police officials would participate in meetings with the people at the police station, taluk and district levels. This would bridge the gap between the people and the police, she said. Officials would intensify night patrolling to maintain law and order.
