New model of wheelchair to help disabled persons

MANY FEATURES: The `Chaithanya wheelchair'

Bangalore: The Association of People with Disability (APD), a non-governmental organisation, and Motivation, U.K., have introduced a new model of wheelchair.

The "Chaithanya Worldmade wheelchair" ("Worldmade" is a brand in the U.K.) can be used on rough ground and other uneven surfaces, and is suitable for persons over 15 years.

Features, price

The wheelchair has a backrest cushion, folding backrest, push handles, removable armrests, puncture-proof tyres, aluminium brakes, special pressure-relief cushion, wheel release mechanism, tubular steel frame and an adjustable footrest. It is priced at Rs. 7, 000.

The APD is offering a weeklong training programme in using the wheelchair and its maintenance.
