SHIMLA: The Union Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment has sanctioned a State Resource Centre and two District Rehabilitation Centres for Himachal Pradesh. The State Resource Centre will come up at Dr. Rajendra Pradesh Medical College in Tanda and the two Rehabilitation Centres would be set up in Hamirpur and Kangra districts, disclosed an official spokesman of the Ministry here on Tuesday. Rehabilitation services, counselling, interventions and therapies would be provided to the handicapped with all types of aids and appliances. Besides this, the centres would create public awareness and provide training, coaching and referral facilities for educational, vocational and placement services to the disabled, the spokesman said. He stated that artificial limbs, scholarships for the handicapped, self-employment help and marriage grant were given to those with more than 40 per cent disability. During 2005-06, Rs. 23.58 lakhs has been spent on marriage grants and 476 differently-abled people have benefited from a budget of Rs. 26.60 lakhs, the spokesman added.
