The Delhi Zoo officials are calling it a miracle. On Friday the zoo saw the birth of four white tiger cubs, all of whom have managed to survive and pull through the weekend. "The cubs were born to Lakshman and Yamuna and are well and healthy. Usually when a pair has a litter of four cubs the chance of the last cub surviving is very slim. However, we have managed to ensure that good medical care was provided and the cubs are now doing well. The cubs are healthy and we are preparing them for the monsoon,'' says Zoo Director D. N. Singh. With the new births, the white tigers' population at the zoo has gone up to 13, of whom four are adults, the rest being sub-adults and young ones. "This is a very healthy ratio for the zoo. We had previously given two adult white tigers to Bhopal,'' says Mr. Singh. Speaking about the preparations being made for the monsoon, Mr. Singh explains: "We are setting up high-rise feeding platforms for the herbivores. Additional pumps for removing stagnant water have also been installed.'' -- Bindu Shajan Perappadan
