Telecom workers stage protest

KARIMNAGAR: Members of the National Federation of Telecom Employees, the Bharatiya Telecom Employees Federation and the National Telecom Staff Federation staged a dharna in front of the office of the BSNL general manager here on Tuesday demanding implementation of their charter of demands.

Woman found dead

Kurnool: An unidentified woman was found murdered near Bogole railway station in Veldurthi mandal of Kurnool district on Tuesday. The assailants had set fire to her after the murder. She was aged between 30 and 40 years of age. - Staff Reporter

YSR pays tributes to PV

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao on the eve of his 86th birth anniversary.

In a message, he recalled Rao's services as a freedom-fighter, parliamentarian and litterateur.

Court suspends SEC order

HYDERABAD: Justice P.S. Narayana of High Court on Tuesday made it clear that the names of polling agents of the candidates for the local bodies elections need not be disclosed one day prior to the polling as directed by the State Election Commission. The judge was passing these orders in a writ petition filed by Subbiramaraju of East Godavari district. The petitioner complained that the authorities were insisting that the names of polling agents be disclosed one day earlier to the polling and he feared that this would lead to polling agents being threatened. The Judge suspended the orders of the State Election Commission. - Legal Correspondent

8 naxalites surrender

WARANGAL: Eight naxalites, belonging to CPI (Maoist) and Janashakti, surrendered to the police in the presence of Superintendent of Police M.S. Ravindra here on Tuesday.

Nizamabad's distinction

NIZAMABAD: The Nizamabad district has ranked second in the State in the implementation of 20- point programme, according to an official release.

The release said on Tuesday that the State stood at 6th position at national level.

At the State level, grading was done in 11 subjects and the district achieved excellence in all the subjects. West Godavari ranked first and Karimnagar third. - Staff Reporter

Pregnant woman commits suicide

VISAKHAPATNAM: A pregnant woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan on Monday unable to bear the `harassment' by her husband, Radi Dasu, a daily wage earner.

According to the police, Susila was a resident of Ramakrishna Nagar of Gopalapatnam.

In another case, K. Shankar Rao, a retired police constable, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to a ceiling fan at Ramnagar on Tuesday.

According to the police, Rao was in a state of depression after his wife, Malati, deserted. - Staff Reporter

Two killed

ADILABAD: Two persons were killed in Bejjur mandal of the district on Tuesday morning sending shock waves in the area.

According to the police, Muthu Babu, 37, a Koya tribal of Korthagudem village was allegedly strangled to death by Pedam Som Babu, a shaman who was asked to cure Muthu Babu. When villagers found Som Babu's body, they beat up the shaman to death. - Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: V. Kavita of Caltex colony allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her home on Tuesday. The girl took the extreme step as she could not bear her failure in final year B.Sc. examination. She was a student of Bellampalli degree college. - Staff Reporter

Liquor seized

NIZAMABAD: The Morthad police seized liquor worth about Rs.1.50 lakhs while it was being transported without proper permission during vehicle checking at Timmapur Cross Road on Tuesday, according to Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha. - Staff Reporter
