NEW DELHI : It was the turn of Alexei Shirov to prosper at P. Hari Krishna's expense in the ninth round of the Aerosvit 2006 International Grandmaster chess tournament in Foros, Ukraine, on Monday. In their Slav Defence game, Shirov sacrificed a knight to gain tremendous space advantage. Three moves later, Hari realised his mistake and returned the knight. Hari resigned in 38 moves. The results (ninth round): Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr, 6) drew with Vioral Bologan (Mol, 5.5); Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze, 5) drew with Liviy-Dieter Nisipeanu (Rom, 4); Alexei Shirov (Esp, 5) bt P. Hari Krishna (Ind, 3); Alexander Grischuk (Rus, 5) bt Andrei Volokitin (Ukr, 3.5); Alexander Areshchenko (Ukr, 4) drew with Sergei Rublevsky (Rus, 6.5); Sergei Karjakin (Ukr, 3) lost to Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukr, 3.5).
