Protest against `official apathy'

Jaypore: Many people, most of them women from Bangalaguda, Hanaguda, Mandoguda and Bijurajnagar under Jeypore Municipality limits, staged a rally and a dharna in front of the Sub Collector's residence, tahsildar and block offices on Saturday demanding basic rights such as BPL ration cards, old age pension and Annapoorna Jajana facilities.

They rallied under the banners of Patito Kalyan Samaj, Nanie Samaj and other youth organisations from villages. The agitators said that for the last 35 years they had been struggling for food, clothing and shelter. In a memorandum submitted to the Sub-Collector, they threatened to go on indefinite as fast on August 8 if their demands were not met.
