CBI arrests CPWD engineer
The CBI received a complaint from the contractor alleging that Dalchand Gupta, an executive engineer with "Q" division of the CPWD at R.K. Puram, was demanding Rs.25,000 from him to clear a bill for Rs.4 lakhs against work that had already been executed. Acting on the complaint, the CBI sleuths laid a trap on Tuesday and caught Dalchand red-handed in his office while he was accepting part of the bribe amount. Subsequently, searches were conducted at his office and residence. The raiding team allegedly recovered Rs.17,000 in cash, documents pertaining to investments worth about Rs.27 lakhs, two Demat Accounts with HDFC Bank, a large number of Mutual Fund certificates and papers relating to construction of a house at Faridabad in Haryana. The seized documents are being scrutinised. The accused was produced in a Delhi court that remanded him to 14-day judicial custody.
One arrested on
murder charge
Acting on a tip-off that Rahis Qureshi, who was wanted in connection with a murder case at Khurja, would pass by Haiderpur Canal, a team comprising Sub-Inspector Sahdev Kumar Rana laid a trap and arrested him. During interrogation, Rahis allegedly confessed to having murdered one of his relatives, Mohammad Walim, on June 15. He had borrowed Rs. 30,000 from Walim for marriage of his two sisters. Later, Walim asked him to repay the loan at which Rahis took up a fight and allegedly shot him with a country-made firearm.
Police official renders apology in court
Taking the written apology of Inspector Rajeshwar Kumar, employed at Kalyanpuri police station in east Delhi, into records, Additional Sessions Judge S C Malik said, ``I hope the sufficient message stands conveyed to the SHO present in the court. ``His apology is accepted and he is warned to be careful in future with further direction that any such violation would be dealt with as per the law.''
CBSE's warning to private publishers
The Board said it has come to its notice that many publishers were selling their new editions of textbooks by claiming its recommendation given to them earlier and thus misleading public for their commercial gains, the CBSE said in a release here.
