Man tries to escape from custody, shot

HYDERABAD: The police gunned down a person here at Hayathnagar when he allegedly tried to escape from their custody while being brought from Gannavaram to Hyderabad in connection with a kidnap case on Wednesday.

The police said M. Kameswara Rao, was accused of involvement in several criminal cases, including the recent abduction of a realtor's son from L.B. Nagar for Rs. 50-lakh ransom. A special team of the Cyberabad police traced him at Gannavaram near Vijayawada and rounded him.According to Saroornagar division Officer on Special Duty K. Jagan Mohan Reddy the accused suddenly snatched the constable's pistol and started running.Other team members ran after him even as he fired at the police. The policemen returned the fire."They found him dead" the OSD said.
