Congress withdraws dharna
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
Congress members of the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday withdrew a dharna after Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa promised to discuss "discrimination" against their constituencies in taking up projects. Intervening in a discussion on road projects during question hour, Leader of the Opposition N. Dharam Singh and other members alleged that the Government had failed to implement assurances made by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister B.S. Yediyurappa at a meeting in Speaker Krishna's chamber that development work would be taken up in their constituencies.
Mr. Dharam Singh said the Government had not released funds for road projects in constituencies represented by Congress members.
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj C.M. Udasi said funds were released based on priority of work and availability of funds.
