Land Revenue Bill opposed in Council
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
Acting Chairman of the Legislative Council Sachidanand Khot has invited leaders of parties to a meeting to consider the demand of the Congress for a review of the Karnataka Land Revenue (Second Amendment) Bill, 2005 by a Select Committee of the House.
The Bill, which was passed in the Legislative Assembly, was tabled in the Upper House in the last session.
Seeking the Council's approval for the Bill, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar said the objective of bringing in an amendment to Section 69 of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964 was to provide for disposal of land and other property owned by the Government. As there was no provision for confirmation of auctioned land, the amendment sought to insert a new section, 69A, which allowed an authorised official to confirm the sale 30 days after the sale of immovable property. Soon after Mr. Shettar introduced the Bill, Leader of the Opposition H.K. Patil said it was flawed, and seemed to be only for Bangalore and the rich, as only people with money power would be able to participate in auctions.
