FUXIN (CHINA): One more victim was confirmed dead in a gas blast at a coal mine in Fuxin city of northeast China's Liaoning Province on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 22. Four others are still missing and 37 injured in the accident, said Wang Daguang, head of the Wulong Coal Mine of the Fuxin Mining Industrial Group. The explosion site is about 1,000 metres from the surface, according to Mr. Wang. The blast occurred at 8:15 a.m. (local time) on Wednesday, 150 km northwest of Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province. In operation since 1957, the Wulong Coal Mine produces more than two million tonnes of coal annually. The Liaoning provincial Government and Fuxin city government officials have rushed to the accident site to supervise rescue work. The cause of the accident is being investigated. Xinhua
