HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday announced that the 11.5 km-long express highway between Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital and Aramgarh on NH-7 to the international airport here would be named after former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao. He was speaking to presspersons at PV Gyan Bhoomi, the memorial under construction on Necklace Road on the 86th birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister. Dr. Reddy recalled that the Srisailam Right Bank Canal in Kurnool district was earlier named after the former Prime Minister.
Rich tributes
Given the multi-faceted personality that P.V.Narasimha Rao was known to be, it was the duty of every Government to keep his memory alive in the minds of people, Dr. Reddy said, adding that naming the Rs. 600-crore express highway after the former Prime Minister would be a good way of ensuring it. Prominent among political leaders present were Finance Minister K. Rosaiah, Musheerabad MLA N. Narasimha Reddy and Chairman of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority D. Sudheer Reddy. Many of the former Prime Minister's sons, daughters and grandchildren, including former Minister P.V. Ranga Rao and P.V. Rajeshwar, were present. Classical artistes sang bhajans and other devotional songs since 8.30 a.m. and preachers from different religions offered prayers.
