CHITTOOR: All arrangements have been made for conducting elections to local bodies in a proper and peaceful manner on July 2nd in the district, according to Collector S. S. Rawath. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that 202 candidates are in the contest for 64 ZPTCs and 2,038 candidates for 853 MPTCs in the district. Of these, one ZPTC member was elected unanimously. Like wise, 36 MPTC members were elected unanimously in the district. For this 2,792 polling stations were set up for voters to exercise their franchise. Counting of ballot papers will be held on July 4 at divisional headquarters of Madanapalle, Tirupati and Chittoor relating to its mandals. Voters were urged to bring identity proof for exercising their franchise.
Force deployment
Speaking on the occasion, Superintendent of Police V. V. Gopalakrishna told that two additional SP's 16 DSP's 86 CI's 146 SI's, 2,300 police constables and 850 home guards are being deployed for the purpose. Besides, 20 platoons of APSP, AR (armed reserve) and 200 persons belonging to other departments will also be pressed into service. In addition to this, special police from Karnataka are also being drawn.
