BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Eastern Region Power Distribution Company has decided to give special concessions in electricity charges to farmers if they use power-saving agricultural equipment, ISI-approved motors and irrigation pumps. The farmers from Jabalpur, Sagar and Rewa divisions have been assured a concession of 10 paise per unit for using motors stamped with the ISI mark. Similarly they will get a concession of 30 paise per unit if they install low friction loss and high flow rate pvc pipe fittings and shunt capacitors with motors to improve the power factor. The latest concession is being offered to farmers under the present tariff order which states that electricity consumption would be reduced if the agricultural consumers install ISI-approved motors, submersible pumps, low friction PVC pipes, and proper shunt capacitors. The Eastern Region Power Distribution Company has appealed to the farmers to go for duly approved equipment to reduce consumption in public interest and also to draw the benefit of reduced electricity tariffs. The general advice to the farmers is that they should replace old high friction foot valves with ISI mark foot valves and use shunt capacitors across motor terminals to reduce KVA charges and also avoid damage to motors.
