Police get vital clues in Tiruchi jewellery shop dacoity case

Special teams search in different parts of the district and Thanjavur

TIRUCHI: Investigations into the dacoity in a jewellery shop along Big Bazaar Street in Tiruchi on Tuesday have given some vital clues to the police.

With probe proceeding on top gear, special police teams have fanned out to different parts of the district and neighbouring Thanjavur in search of the accused involved in the crime.

Three special teams were formed on Wednesday in addition to the three teams, which launched the investigations soon after the incident, police sources told The Hindu.

Hours after the dacoity took place, police conducted checks at lodges, besides quizzing history-sheeters, suspected rowdy elements and their key associates in an effort to trace the accused.

Photographs of criminals were shown to those who were enquired with a view to ascertaining the identity of the accused.

Police have also developed computer images of the accused for quicker identification of the accused.

Consequent to the incident, the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, M.S. Jaffar Sait, convened a meeting of the jewellers.

In the meeting, which was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Sunil Kumar Singh, and other senior police officials, he advised the jewellers to take the help of the police to verify the antecedents of the staff before appointing them in their establishments for their own safety and security.

Burgular alarm

Suggestions were also given to go for a safety measure such as installation of burglar alarm.

The bigger shops were advised to appoint private security guards.
