CHENNAI: A sub inspector of police attached to Law and Order wing of the Otteri police was attacked and one person was arrested in this connection on Wednesday. Police said the officer M. Kaliyamurthy (54) went to enquire into a dispute in a house on Chellappa Mudali Street in Vepery police limits around 2.30 a.m. on Wednesday. Even while he was enquiring, one Vivian Paul allegedly brandished a small knife and attacked the sub inspector. He sustained injuries on his stomach and was admitted to the Government General hospital for treatment. Police arrested Vivian Paul.
Grille offenders strike
Gold jewels weighing about 20 sovereigns were stolen from the house of a retired sub inspector of police in Adambakkam on Tuesday. The burglary came to light when the inmates returned to their house on Balaji Nagar Third Street in the evening. Ramanujam, 60, the retired policeman, his wife and their son had gone to the city to attend a wedding. They returned in the evening and noticed the almirah broken open and the jewels stolen. The culprits had entered the house by breaking open one of the window grilles and ransacked the house.
