Heart check-up organised for prisoners in Central Jail

Bangalore: Prisoners in Bangalore Central Jail at Parapana Agrahara are a relatively healthy lot. A free heart check up camp for the prisoners organised on Wednesday by M.S. Ramaiah Heart Centre in association with Lioness Club revealed this.

Nagaraj Desai, Director of M.S.Ramaiah Heart Centre; Abhay, Deputy Inspector-General of Police; Mahesh Joshi, Director, Doordarshan; and Nalini Krishna, president of Lioness Club, were present. Nearly 200 prisoners aged above 40 were tested. No cases of serious heart disorders were reported. There were persons with hypertension and other disorders which they were advised to take care of; medication was prescribed for some. The heart centre has a programme broadcast on FM Rainbow every Tuesday that discusses health issues in depth with the help of medical experts and prisoners with doubts about health issues could listen to it, Dr. Desai said.
