Panel upset over paltry rents on leased lands

    HYDERABAD: Leased lands of Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad came up for discussion at the weekly standing committee with members expressing their displeasure over their management and paltry rents collected from leaseholders.

    The meeting was presided over by Mayor and ex-officio chairman of the committee Teegala Krishna Reddy on Wednesday. Members were informed that 14,469 sq.yards was leased out to 27 charitable institutions for 20 years of which seven lease periods had expired. Amount collected was a paltry Rs. 19,851 and dues Rs. 9,750. About 15,586 sq.yards was leased out to 16 educational institutions of which 10 lease periods had expired. About 4,317 sq.yards of residential land leased out for 100 properties yielded Rs. 3,483 while Rs. 8,800 was due. Nine properties' lease periods had lapsed. Lease periods for 26 commercial complexes, of the 129 properties leased out (4,889 sq.yards), got lapsed. Amount collected was Rs.11,800 and dues were Rs. 13,586. In total, about Rs. 3.49 lakhs was the paltry sum collected from leased lands.

    High rises

    Ramgopalpet corporator Seelam Prabhakar demanded from officials whether they were taking any action as instances of high rises built on leased lands and lakhs of rupees collected as rents cropped up. He was of the opinion that the corporation was losing out substantial revenue from such lands and wondered why action was not initiated in cases were the lease periods had expired.
