Call for steps to check breeding of mosquitoes

HYDERABAD: Health Minister K. Rosaiah instructed authorities to take up measures to curb mosquito breeding as part of prevention of chikungunya in the city.

He visited Fever Hospital here on Wednesday. As many as 7,329 cases were screened by the 60 health teams that were pressed into service to check the incidence of the disease. Some 12 suspected cases were reported, said District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Satyavati.

In a press release, the DMHO said that the 12 suspected cases were admitted to Fever Hospital and were being treated accordingly.

In all, 54 localities of the city were visited and 6,746 cases of minor ailments were reported. Some 423 cases were identified as viral fever infection.

Some 89 suspected cases of chikungunya were reported of the 77,740 cases screened from June 14 by health and mobile teams.

As part of anti-larval operations, all water stagnant areas were being treated with relevant measures, she informed.

Free medicine

Members of Walkers Club of Hyderabad Central, Baghlingampally would be distributing the preventive homoeopathy medicines for chikungunya `free of cost' at Sundarayya Park in Baghlingampally.

Medicines would be distributed daily from 7 to 8 a.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. There will be no consultation charges and persons can also visit for personal consultation.
