MCD sends a notice to DMRC

Staff Reporter

`Civic body is suffering monetary loss due to this'

  • `MCD has been demanding DMRC to share at least 25 per cent of the revenue
  • DMRC denies violation of any section of the DMC Act

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday served notice on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation asking it to remove all outdoor advertisements on its structures, pillars and stations within a week failing which the civic body would remove them at the cost of the latter.

"DMRC has put up advertisement panels on its pillars and other structures in gross violation of various sections of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957. DMRC has neither taken any permission from the civic body, which is mandatory, nor is it sharing any revenue generated from it with us.

Despite repeated reminders, Delhi Metro has failed to remove hoardings forcing us to send a legal notice," said MCD spokesperson Deep Mathur.

Claiming that all advertisements displayed on pillars and other structures by DMRC roads were unauthorised, Mr. Mathur said the civic body was suffering monetary loss due to this. Stating that MCD had been demanding that DMRC share at least 25 per cent of the revenue generated by these advertisements to settle the dispute, Mr. Mathur said if the civic body removes these advertisement boards, it would recover removal charges from DMRC as per by-laws.

"We have also given instructions in this regard to our field staff," he added. However, DMRC denied that it was violating any section of the DMC Act.

Quoting the Delhi Metro (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002, its spokesperson Anuj Dayal said DMRC was free to display advertisements on its properties.
