DDA clears plans for two zones

Staff Reporter

Members want "ground reality'' to be properly represented

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Development Authority meeting on Wednesday cleared the zonal plans for O Zone and J Zone for obtaining objections and suggestions of the people.

The process for finalising the zonal plans is under way at present on court orders.

However, when this matter came up for discussion, the members pointed out that many of the inhabitations and occupied areas had been shown as vacant and the "ground reality'' needed to be properly represented.

Councillor Virender Kasana said while in the case of O Zone, which covers the Yamuna banks in the Okhla region in South Delhi, the inhabited areas have now been shown by DDA, in the case of the J Zone, which covers the stretch of land between National Highway 2 and NH 8 along Mehrauli-Badarpur road, all the habitations have not been shown.

Mr. Kasana said since a 200-metre-wide corridor had been proposed to be constructed between the two national highways, the members objected on the ground that there were several colonies along the way as also eight prominent villages such as Khanpur, Lado Sarai, Said-ul-Ajab, Ghittorni, Sultanpur and Aya Nagar.

As such, he said, DDA had been urged to make a straight road from Badarpur to Aya Nagar along the border so that minimum demolition and rehabilitation was required for the road project and simultaneously the area also got decongested.

Member Mahabal Mishra said the meeting also approved the proposal for cadre review. Under the cadre review, three Directors of the Horticulture Department have been promoted and the tenure of service for Superintending Engineers to become Chief Engineers has been reduced from seven years to four. Also, promotions have been given to Research cadre personnel.

Since the Tikkoo Committee, constituted to look in the manner of cadre review, had been overlooked, the members took assurance that the promotions of all other cadres, including secretarial ones, would be reviewed within a fixed time frame of three months.
