dated June 30, 1956: Future of Malaya

Britain is to be granted long-term lease of land for naval, army and air force bases in independent Malaya, authoritative Malayan Government sources said in Kuala Lumpur on June 28. An official statement issued after a two-day meeting attended by the rulers of the Malay States, the High Commissioner, Sir Donald MacGillivary, and the Chief Minister, Tengku Abdul Rahman, said full accord was reached on all matters discussed.
