Aditya Vikas outwits Adhiban

Tehran: Indians continued to dominate in the Asian Youth chess championships here, leading in seven out of the eight events.

In the boys' under-14 championships, eighth seed Aditya Vikas continued his superb performance by outwitting second seeded compatriot B. Adhiban in the seventh round to increase his lead in the tournament.

With 6.0 points to his credit, Aditya is now a full point ahead of S. Nitin (India), Mars Ulu Dan (Kyrgyzstan), Amirreza Pouramezzanali and Shahin Kohestaani (Both Iran).

The under-14 girls' championship is the only event where an Indian is not in the lead. Mitra Hejazipour of Iran shot ahead by scoring over Pon Krutthika in the seventh round. Bhakti Kulkarni (India) scored over Anu Bayar (Mongolia) to move into sole second place with 5.5 points.

Prasanna Rao maintained his lead in the under-12 boys' championship by defeating Mehdi Hosseinpour of Iran in the seventh round to take his tally to 6.5 points.

Boys' under-14: B. Adhiban (4.5) lost to Aditya Vikas (6); S. Nitin (5) drew with Mars Ulu Dan (5, Kyg); Ar Salem (4.5, UAE) drew with Y. Sandeep (4.5); Amirreza Pourmezanali (5.0, Irn) bt K. Priyadarshan (4).

Under-12: Hosseinipour Mehdi (5) lost to Prasanna Rao (6.5); V.A.V. Rajesh (4.5) lost to Vidit Gujarathi (6); Ch. Chinna Reddy (5) bt Harsh Karnataki (4.5); Wared Altarboush (4.5, Syr) drew with Vishwanath Prasad (4.5).

Under-10: G.V. Sai Krishna (6.5) drew with Utkal Ranjan Sahoo (5.5); Y.V.K. Chakravarthi (5) drew with Sayantan Das (4.5); Neema Javanbakht (5, Irn) bt Vo Hoai Thoang (4.5, Vit).

Under-8: M. Satvik (5.5) drew with Prince Bajaj (6); Moosavi S Khalil (5, Irn) lost to Ahmah Asgarizadeh (5, Irn); S. Ali Emadivakili (4, Irn) lost to Ch. Mohineesh (5).

Girls' under-14: Mitra Hejazipour (6, Irn) bt Pon N. Kritthika (5); Bhakti Kulkarni (5.5) bt Anu Bayar (4, Irn); F. Sitareh (4.5, Irn) drew with Pallabi Roy (5); P. Lakshmi Sahiti (3.5) drew with Y. Hoang Thi Nu (4.5, Vit).

Under-12: Nguyen Thi Mai Hung (5.5, Vit) bt Padmini Raut (5.5); Haneh Khalaji (5, Irn) bt Priyanka Kumari (4.5); Ghazal Hakimifar (4.5, Irn) bt Nioosha Afshar (4.0, Irn); J. Mohana Priya (4.5) bt Azin Vakilpour (3.5, Irn).
