Battery-operated vehicles in Kolkata soon

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Cars, cycles, mopeds and three-wheelers, all battery-operated, are set to hit the streets of Kolkata.

Each of these vehicles was flagged off for a ceremonial run by West Bengal Power Minister Mrinal Banerjee here on Thursday. Incidentally, taxis were off the road for most of the day demanding a reduction in the prices of diesel and petrol.

Under an incentive scheme of the West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency, these forms of transport will be provided to individuals and institutions. Initially the scheme will cover 200 such vehicles.
