DHAKA: Bangladesh has lodged a strong protest against India's move to invite tenders for exploring oil and gas in undemarcated areas in the Bay of Bengal, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia told Parliament on Wednesday. Replying to a question, she said the two countries should resolve all issues immediately. Cooperation in many sectors including trade and commerce, education and culture had increased. The Government held discussions with India, especially on demarcation of land border and creating a peaceful atmosphere along the border areas. Efforts were on to reduce the huge trade imbalance. The Indian Government was informed of Bangladesh's concern, in a diplomatic note, at the proposed river linking. The matter was also raised at the joint river commission meeting. Referring to her New Delhi visit, Begum Khaleda Zia said she had fruitful discussions on bilateral matters with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The talks were held in an atmosphere of cordiality and friendship. "I have informed the Indian Premier of the matters related to Bangladesh's interests and sought his sincere cooperation." After her visit, a favourable atmosphere was created for discussions on bilateral issues.
