HYDERABAD: With the works pertaining to the recently-launched Andhra Pradesh Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (APREGS) gaining momentum, the Department of Rural Development has announced the launch of a software solution for ensuring effective monitoring of the implementation of the scheme.

The department has come up with a website containing the minute details pertaining to the progress of various works being taken up as part of the scheme right from the grassroots level.

The website www.nrega.ap.gov.in contains complete information pertaining to job cardholders, household employment details, works that have been commenced and their overall status as well as muster rolls and details pertaining to the payments made to workers incorporating the bank account number to which the payment has been made.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Rural Development department Secretary K. Raju said the new system, developed by the Tata Consultancy Services, had been adopted to ensure that contractors and vested interests did not hijack the scheme by effectively tracking the movement of every rupee spent and the status of the works in progress.

    Job cards issued

The department had so far issued 39.54 lakh job cards through which 4.91 lakh households had benefited with employment provided to 7.37 lakh people. In all, 22,063 works had been launched thus far.
