Talks with Revenue Department staff fail

  • Two lawyers, Revenue Department employees trade charges of assault in Bhalki
  • Bhalki Bar Association not to lend advocates' services to Revenue Department employees in the case
  • Revenue Department employees go on mass leave for a day

Bidar: Lawyers in Bidar will abstain from courts on July 1 to protest against the alleged assault on an advocate in Bhalki by two Revenue Department employees.

Bidar Bar Association at a meeting on Thursday decided to demand arrest of the two employees whom they alleged had "committed a serious criminal offence".

In a unanimous resolution, the members condemned the strike by the Revenue Department employees demanding arrest of the advocates who had allegedly assaulted some of their colleagues in Bhalki. The association refuted allegations of assault by advocates. The association decided to support the stand of the Bhalki Bar Association of not providing the services of any advocate to the accused revenue employees.

Association president Dhulappa Biradar, vice-president Baburao Biradar, secretary S. Wilson, and joint secretary Jyothi Kudle spoke at the meeting.

Meanwhile, members of the Bidar District Revenue Department Employees' Association went on mass leave on Thursday in protest against non-cooperation by lawyers. They were protesting against the decision of the Bar Association not to provide them any advocate's services. Association president Raghunath Kulkarni, secretary Prakash Chincholikar and vice-president Gurunath Vaidya held a meeting with office-bearers of the Bidar Bar Association in Bidar on Thursday. But the talks failed. The two associations are at loggerheads after an advocate Dattatri Manikrao and his assistant Krishnappa had allegedly assaulted shirastedar Basvaraj Ambarashetty and a second division assistant Mohammad Fazal in Bhalki last week. Both the parties have filed criminal complaints against each other.
