Ramanathapuram: Just ten days after the shooting incident that caused bullet injury to a Rameswaram fisherman, who is still recuperating at a hospital, another fisherman of Thankachimadam was critically injured when the Sri Lankan Navy reportedly opened fire at Tamil Nadu fishermen on Wednesday. A group of four fisherman of Thankachimadam ventured into sea on Wednesday morning. When they were fishing near the sea off Katchatheevu, a fast craft of the Sri Lankan Navy reportedly opened fire at the boat which is owned by Arokiaraj of Thankachimadam. Julious (36), son of Joseph, was hit by a bullet in the upper abdomen and he fell down in the boat. Other crew escaped from the firing by stooping down the boat. A huge quantity of fish varieties and nets were seized. Following the shooting, other members of the crew returned to the shore along with the injured fisherman. The doctors of the Government Hospital in Ramanathapuram referred him to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, where he is expected to undergo surgery to remove the bullet. "When the craft of the Sri Lankan Navy approached our boat, we switched on all lights and raised our hands. However, the Navy personnel, fired at our boat indiscriminately. By hearing the firing noise other boats also returned to the shore hurriedly," said Antroose, a member of the crew.
