AP Sports School selections on July 16 and 17

VISAKHAPATNAM: The District-level trials to select boys and girls for admission into the fourth and fifth standards of AP Sports School, Hyderabad, will be held at the Police Stadium here on July 16 and 17.

Children aged eight to nine and nine to 10 years as on August 31, 2006, are eligible to join fourth and fifth standard respectively. Age and study certificate issued by the school, date of birth certificate and three passport size photographs have to be submitted at the time of trials.

A battery test will be conducted during the trials. Interested children have to report to the DSDO at the venue at 9 a.m.

Cricket probables

The following players selected as probables for VDCA's under-12 team have to report at the MCV Stadium here on July 1 at 5 p.m.

Kho-kho official dead

Vice-president of the All-India Kho-kho Federation and chairman of the Andhra Kho-kho Association, Doddi Appa Rao, 55, died at a hospital in Hyderabad while undergoing treatment for a liver-related problem.

He is survived by his wife and two sons. Appa Rao was creamted at his native place, Anakapalle, near here, on Thursday. Popularly known as "Kho-kho Appa Rao'' for the services rendered to the game, Appa Rao had popularised kho-kho and produced a large number of players.
