Home Minister's son granted bail

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
District and Sessions Judge D. Pappachan on Thursday ordered the release of Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, on bail if the petitioner surrenders before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court within two weeks.
The direction comes in the wake of a petition filed by Bineesh, seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a case relating to the forcible release of student activists from police custody in 2004. A warrant had been issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate in connection with the case earlier.
The Sessions judge noted that there is no necessity of a custodial interrogation or pre-trial detention of the petitioner as the investigation in the case is over and a final report has been filed in the court.
