Siddaramaiah's moves to join Congress worries AIPJD leaders

Staff Correspondent

Party leaders favour an alliance with Congress

  • AIPJD leaders to persuade Siddaramaiah to stay with the party
  • Say he can fight the communal forces only if he retains his identity

HASSAN: The meeting between the former Deputy Chief Minister and All India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD) leader Siddaramiah and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday created anxiety among the leaders of AHINDA (Alpasankhyataru, Hindulidavaru mattu Dalitaru) as they were opposed to him joining the Congress.

Reacting to the reports that decks were cleared for the entry of Mr. Siddaramiah into the Congress, Manjunatha Datta, who took keen interest in organising rally in Hassan, said it was better for Mr. Siddaramiah to form a coalition with the Congress. Mr. Siddaramiah had a responsibility to unite people against communal and fascist forces and that could be achieved only by retaining separate identity, he said.

Mr. Datta said senior leaders, including H.C. Mahadevappa, would prevail upon him to stay with the AIPJD and form a coalition with the Congress.
