GIVEN A RAW DEAL: Students under the banner of AIDSO staging a protest at the bus stand in Bellary on Thursday against the increase in bus pass rate.
BELLARY: Students from various schools and colleges, under the banner of All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO), staged a demonstration at the bus stand here on Thursday in protest against the increase in bus pass rate. They took out a procession, shouting slogans against the Government. AIDSO district unit president N. Pramod said the increase in the bus pass rate was "anti-education". Instead of taking steps to check corruption, the State Government had resorted to increasing the bus pass rate, he said. The rise in the prices of essential commodities, increase in bus fares, and textbooks getting dearer had overburdened parents and the increase in the bus pass rate shocked them, he said. Mr. Pramod said it was not fair on the part of the Government to adopt such "anti-education stand" while extending tax concessions and other benefits to liquor dealers and industrialists. AIDSO district unit vice-president Anusha spoke. The protesters submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Minister for Transport, through the Deputy Commissioner.
