Achuthanandan to open training programme

Thrissur: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the ABARD self-employment training programme for women from economically weaker sections of society, here on July 2. The Thrissur Corporation and the Kerala Agricultural University are organising the programme, according to a press release. — Staff Reporter

IT Department opens help centre

Thrissur: The Income Tax (IT) Department has opened a help centre for small taxpayers at the Chamber of Commerce Building on Palace Road here.

Maidan beautification to be completed

Thrissur: The beautification of the Sree Vadakkunatha Temple maidan will be completed before the 2007 Thrissur Pooram, according to District Collector K.S. Premachandra Kurup. The Collector announced this during the inauguration of the Special Tahsildar's Office here on Wednesday. — Staff Reporter

Equipment for palliative care unit

Thrissur: The Rotary Club of Trichur Central donated medical equipment and computers worth Rs.7 lakhs to the Pain and Palliative Care Institute at a function here on Thursday. KOCHI: The Kerala State Pollution Control Board has served notices on rice mills discharging untreated effluents in Okkal panchayat. The Board has instructed such mills to stop operation and install equipment for effluent treatment. — Staff Reporter

First woman CEI takes charge

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K.S. Beena has assumed charge as the Chief Electrical Inspector (CEI). She is the first woman to be elevated to the position. A product of the 1973 batch of the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, she has held the posts of Electrical Inspector, Kerala State Electricity Licensing Board secretary, Kerala State Cinema Operator Examination Board secretary and Additional Chief Electrical Inspector. — Special Correspondent

Stay on CSB share-selling

Thrissur: The Company Law Board today stayed implementation of items No. 9 and 10 of the agenda in the 85th Annual General Body meeting of the Catholic Syrian Bank, to be held on Friday. The items related to enabling the CSB to amend Article IV of the Memorandum of Association, empowering selling of shares under private placements at lower price, CSB Shareholders Association General Secretary Johny Chandy said. The stay order was in connection with an urgent petition filed by Johny Chandy and the CSB Protection Committee members. — UNI
