TO PRESS ITS DEMAND: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy inaugurating the fast launched by the Youth Congress in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy said here on Thursday that neither the Government nor the LDF can save the Public Works Minister P.J. Joseph from indictment over the irregularities connected with the Maithri Housing Scheme. Inaugurating a 24-hour fast launched under the leadership of Youth Congress president K.P. Anil Kumar demanding a probe into Mr. Joseph's role in it after keeping him out of the ministry during its pendency, he said the evidence against him was strong. He stated the Chief Minister and the Cabinet would cut a sorry figure if Mr. Joseph continued in the ministry. Referring to the Chief Minister's poser as to whether the stir over the issue was not politically motivated, he said it was not the Opposition which had raised it. The Public Accounts Committee had brought the issue to light during the chairmanship of a Minister of his Cabinet. Several other agencies too raised it. He asked the Chief Minister, who had declared that corrupt persons would not continue in his ministry for 24 hours, whether he was prepared to take the High Court's comments on the issue at face value and order a probe.
