THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The notification for counselling for admission to professional courses will be issued on July 5, Education Minister M.A. Baby said. Replying to a submission by P.C. Vishnunath and V.D. Satheesan in the Assembly on Thursday regarding admission to professional colleges, Mr. Baby said the online counselling system would be started on an experimental basis this year. Students can take part in the counselling on Internet. At present, counselling is being held in three centres. This will be decentralised and held at more places. The first leg of counselling for MBBS will be completed by July 25 and classes will begin by August. Replying to another submission by C.T. Ahammedali regarding permission for new schools and upgrading the existing ones, Mr. Baby said schools were sanctioned in an unscientific manner and hence there was an imbalance. The Government will sanction new schools according to norms only after conducting a scientific study, he said. Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy told K.C. Venugopal in reply to a submission seeking to improve the facilities at Alappuzha Medical College that the medical college would soon be shifted to Vandanam. Steps have been taken to fill the vacancies in the college. Earlier, in reply to a calling attention motion by Therambil Ramakrishnan on the problems faced by Thrissur Medical College and District Hospital, Ms. Sreemathy said the Kerala Health Workers Research Society (KHRWS) paywards that were remaining closed would be opened. Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told K. Sudhakaran that a case had been registered in connection with the vandalising of the FRIENDS centre in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. Replying to the submission of A.P. Anil Kumar on the transfer of employees, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said the employees were being transferred according to norms. The Government would look into specific cases of violation of norms, he said.
