Staff Reporter

Government not to interfere in TDB affairs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Functioning of various departments will be coordinated for implementing the master plan for Sabarimala development, Minister for Devaswom and Cooperation G. Sudhakaran has said.

Mr. Sudhakaran said in reply to questions in the Assembly on Thursday that there were lapses in implementing the plan and this was mainly due to lack of coordination. No decision had been taken on piloting a new Devaswom Bill. The Government would not interfere with the administration of the Travancore Devaswom Board or make any changes in the tradition and rites of Sabarimala. Such things would be decided by the persons concerned, he said.

Corruption charges

In reply to another question, the Minister said that a commission would be appointed to probe the corruption charges and irregularities in the cooperative sector during the past 10 years. Medical, engineering, nursing, pharmacy and management colleges were planned in the cooperative sector.

Vacancies

Electricity Minister A.K. Balan said that there were 4,000 vacancies in the Kerala State Electricity Board. As many as 2,500 vacancies would be filled from the PSC list. Candidates from Employment Exchange would be recruited till the vacancies were filled from the PSC list. The Power Department has taken steps to overcome the shortage of materials like transformers, conductors, cross-arm and electronic meters. Government policy was to provide connections for all applicants with the next five years, he said.
