ONGOLE: TDP workers went berserk at Markapur today and pelted stones at RTC buses and shops demanding immediate release of their leader Kandula Narayana Reddy, who was arrested yesterday in connection with a poll offence. The workers pelted stones damaging the windshields of 10 buses of APSRTC. They also attacked private shops to force their closure. Police lathicharged to disperse the unruly mob and took into preventive custody Addanki MLA and TDP district president Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthi. He was released after one and a half hours. It all started with the TDP district youth leader Narayana Reddy disrupting the poll process by pouring water into a ballot box in a polling booth in Veerabhadrapuram of Yerragondapalem mandal on Wednesday. Police arrested him in this connection and produced him before a magistrate at Markapur today, who remanded him to judicial custody till July 2. On hearing about the arrest, Mr. Balaramakrishna Murthi rushed to the place. The TDP workers who were staging dharna in front of Markapur Revenue Divisional Office demanded immediate release of their leader. When Mr. Balaramakrishna Murthi reached the place, the workers went berserk. Uneasy calm prevailed in Markapur town.
