Re-poll ordered in five booths today

Counting of votes at 21 places in the district on July 4


  • Miscreants took away ballot boxes and poured water in them
  • Following High Court orders, 118 people were allowed to vote
  • Officials responsible for voter list irregularities kept away from duties

    ONGOLE: Re-poll has been ordered at five polling booths inThimmasamudram, Veerabhadrapuram and Dharmavaram villages for ZPTC and MPTC seats from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

    The election process was disturbed at these polling booths as miscreants took away two ballot boxes at Dharmavaram village in Addanki mandal and poured water in ballot box at Veerabhadrapuram and Thimmasamudram.

    Following instructions from the State Election Commission, the Returning Officer (ZPTC) and Additional District Election Authority has ordered for a repoll at booth numbers 34 and 35 of Thimmasamudram village and booth number three of Veerabhadrapuram and booth numbers 31 and 32 of Dhramavaram village.

    Following High Court orders, as many as 118 persons were allowed to vote in V.R. Kota village in Lingasamudram mandal. As their names were deleted in the revision of voter lists in 2006, they moved the High Court, which ordered that they should be allowed to vote in ZPTC and MPTC elections.

    District Collector B. Udaya Lakshmi in a pressnote here today said that arrangements have been made for counting of votes at 21 places in the district on July 4.

    The State Election Commission held several revenue officials responsible for irregularities in preparation of voter lists at Pondur village of Tangutur mandal and Koppole, Ommivaram and Nagulappalapadu villages and directed that they may be kept away from election duties.
