ANANTAPUR: Tension prevailed in Rayadurg for more than two hours on Thursday as processions taken out by the TDP and the Congress came face to face even as the police had a tough time pacifying both sides. According to information reaching here, the incident preceded an alleged attack on Rayadurg legislator M. Govinda Reddy at Bhupasamudram in Gummaghatta mandal by Congress supporters on Wednesday night. Congress supporters allegedly gathered around the house of Razia Bi, a TDP supporter, at around 9 p.m. questioning as to how she would oppose the Congress. They even threatened to kill her. Sensing threat, she locked herself and called the TDP legislator over phone. The MLA reached the village at around 9.30 p.m. when a mob led by Congress ZPTC candidate from Gummaghatta V. Timely help by police

Ramana Reddy and eight others were arrested by the police in connection with an attack on TDP leader and upa sarpanch of Gorantla Obulesu.
