Thanjavur: Water has reached tail-end areas in the district and kuruvai cultivation is going on in full swing, said C. Vijayaraj Kumar, Collector here on Thursday. Talking to reporters here, he said that turn system of water has been introduced from June 27 from Grand Anicut for kuruvai cultivation and water has reached all the branch canals.
Loans
With respect to waiver of co-operative loans, 1,20,750 farmers would benefit to the tune of Rs 256 crore in the district. Till date loan waiver certificates have been given to 94,279 farmers which worked out to 90 per cent of the targeted group. `Chitta', that was necessary for getting loan, available in the computer would be given to the farmers. For those who do not have computer data could get it from Village Administrative Officers in written form, he said. "Practical difficulties brought to the notice of the district administration in getting co-operative loans have been examined in detail and necessary orders had been issued to both co-operative and nationalised banks for issue of fresh loans," the Collector said. Till date both Thanjavur Central Co-operative Bank and Kumbakonam Central Co-operative Bank have given Rs 5.26 crore fresh loans to 3,282 farmers. A sum of Rs 50 crore had been allotted to both banks by the State Government for this purpose.
